Milestone have taken full opportunity to use the PlayStation 5’s haptics and adaptive triggers on the DualSense controller, so much so that halfway into any given race my hands would actually start to slightly ache. The races seemed to go on forever, in reality they probably took around eight to ten minutes, but when each corner threw up a mighty risk and high possibility for a rewind-and-try-again, an eight-minute race quickly became a twelve-minute slog. Not the most ideal of ways to keep mid-pack in a race, but the only way I knew how. I would rely on the now key rewind feature to go back and iron out any mistakes on the fly. I was finding that the AI really were a huge challenge and one small mistake on a corner would see me eaten up by five or six opponents very quickly.

Races were not short, nor were the AI easy… at least to me, the very most casual of MXGP players. Very early into my career two things became very evident. I also made sure my race length was set to “Short”. I anticipated some bumps (pun also intended – I’m on a roll), so I stuck the AI on “Easy”. MXGP 2020 – The Official Motocross Videogameīeginning your career mode in MX2 category, you’d think you’d be in for an easier ride (pun 100% intended). There’s the leaning into the turns, there’s the bumpy terrain, the tail whips and scrubs and landing proficiencies, and that’s all on top of racing 19 other bikes. More au fait with tarmac and 4 wheels, it takes more than a little adjustment to find my feet. I forget the nuances associated with this type of racing.

The usual frustrations ensue when I install the game and kick off my career. I am not a native follower of the MXGP sport, so am always quietly excited when this title lands in my inbox for what awaits. We took a look at MXGP 2020 on PlayStation 5.Īs another year begins, so too does my affair with the MXGP franchise.

You can get on your bike when MXGP 2021 hits the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam) this November 30th.Motorbike video game connoisseurs Milestone have released their annual MXGP title, this time with a new generation of consoles on the table. So, when you get too smug and end up in a ditch you can turn back time and carry on not that we’d ever need that because we are absolutely the best motocross bikers ever.

One feature, returning from previous titles, is the rewind feature. We did, briefly, wonder why there’s no custom livery creator but then we remembered what kind of off-putting logos you’d see riding around in multiplayer mode. Like MXGP 2020, this year’s entry will sport a track editor and you’ll be able to use a massive number of real-world brands to customise your rider and bike. We suspect it’s the former though, as with FIFA and its ilk, yearly releases don’t often include huge changes. What is surprising is how soon MXGP 2021 it’s arriving this November 30th, meaning it’s either been under wraps for a while or Milestone has just drawn a big 1 on the cover of MXGP 2020. We had a lot of fun with MXGP 2020 though, as we pointed out in our review, the career mode needed more depth, something we’re hoping MXGP 2021 will deliver. The announcement isn’t a huge surprise in itself, given Milestone have been putting out MXGP games for a while. Developers Milestone have announced MXGP 2021 the latest entry in their official FIM Motocross World Championship series.
